The Gamma Alpha Co-op

Welcome to the Gamma Alpha Society of Chicago. We are a residential community of graduate students located in Hyde Park on the South Side of Chicago, Ill.

Although Gamma Alpha’s name reflects its origins as a scientific fraternity open only to men, it has been run as a co-ed and multidisciplinary cooperative since 1972. More information about our institutional history can be found in ourĀ Wikipedia entry.

Current members’ scholarly training traverses the humanities, biological sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences. Graduate students from any Chicagoland institution are eligible to live here.

Current residents have come to Chicago from across the world: the United States, Burundi, India, Spain, Brazil, Hong Kong, China and Turkey. Along with geographic diversity, the house boasts of members of diverse races, ethnicities, sexual identities, and abilities.
